• 1977 – The company is founded as a “Societe Anonyme” by Athanasios Sarantis.
  • 1980 – The chipboard unit commences production operations.
  • 1982 – The melamine facing chipboard unit commences production operations.
  • 1986 – The chipboard veneering unit commences production operations.
  • 1989 – A sales branch is created in Thessaloniki in order to coordinate the promotion of the company’s products in Northern Greece.
  • 1991 – Start of operation of the sales branch in Athens, with the aim of supporting sales in Southern Greece.
  • 1992 – Creation of a state-of-the-art distribution center in N. Greece in the area of N. Aghialos, total area – 4.780 sq.m.
  • 1997 – A new unit using post forming technology for the production of semi-finished furniture components with the distinctive title POLYTHETA® commences operations.
  • 1998 – AKRITAS becomes the holder of the ISO 9002:1994 quality assurance certification from TUV CERT, Germany.
  • 2000 – Start of trading of AKRITAS shares on the Athens Stock Exchange. ERP R/3 system installation.
  • 2001 – Start of the production of the second melamine unit. Completion of the privately owned multi-storey office building in Alexandroupolis, where the administrative services of AKRITAS are transferred. Certification of the Company with the new quality assurance standard ISO 9001:2000 by the international organization TUV HELLAS.
  • 2002 – Preparation of AKRITAS internal operating regulations.
  • 2003 – The new AKRIPAN® chipboard unit commences production operations constituting an investment that sets AKRITAS apart in what concerns quality and production capacity – capacity of 1.000 cubic meters on a 24-hour basis – and establishes the company as the largest of its kind in South-Eastern Europe today. Establishment of a 100% subsidiary company in Bulgaria under the name EMOS LTD.
  • 2004 – Start of the production of the third melamine unit.
  • 2005 – A new line of products with modern technology and aesthetics under the ARTIKA® brand is put into production.
  • 2008 – Certification of safe loading of the vehicles carrying the products, which is provided by the internationally recognized German agency DEKRA.
  • 2009 – The 2nd unit of semi-finished furniture components with Post Forming technology, under the distinctive brand name POLYTHETA®, is put into operation.
  • 2010 – Transformation of the subsidiary company EMOS LTD into a Public Company with the name AKRITAS BULGARIA S.A. E1 certification for the production of particleboards with low formaldehyde emissions.
  • 2011 – Certified by FSC© (Forest Stewardship Council) to ensure that the timber supply comes from responsibly and sustainably managed forests.
  • 2016 – Certification by CARB (California Air Resources Board) for the production of particleboards with low formaldehyde emission according to the regulation of the American Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • 2019 – Certification according to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety), TSCA (Toxic Substance Control Act – production of particleboards with low formaldehyde emissions).
  • 2021 – ISO 45001 certification (replacing OHSAS 18001) for Occupational Health & Safety. Obtaining a Green Certificate for the utilization of biomass within the unit and the use of electricity produced from RES. Obtain EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification to declare the environmental impact of products throughout their entire life cycle.
